Jeannette McHugh
Member of the Executive CommitteeJeannette was a Member (Australian Labor Party) of the House of Representatives in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia from 1983 to 1996, and served in the Keating Labor Government as the Australian Minister for Consumer Affairs from 1992 to 1996.The first woman elected to the Australian Parliament from a New South Wales seat, and the first from New South Wales to become a Minister, Jeannette has worked on social justice issues for many years through her involvement in housing, environment, anti-nuclear, peace and women's organisations. Jeannette is also the Chair of the Jessie Street Trust, a Board member of Hoc Mai, the Australia-Vietnam Medical Foundation, and the Vice-President of the Randwick and District Historical Society. She retired as Secretary of the Evatt Foundation in November 2006.
