Vice President of the Evatt Foundation

Penny is a member of the NSW Legislative Council on behalf of the Australian Labor Party. She was born in Canberra and moved to Sydney when she was 19 to study Food Technology at UNSW, joining the Labor Party and becoming active in student organisations. A former President of the National Union of Students, prior to being elected to parliament in October 2005, Penny worked as a ministerial policy advisor in the areas of youth, juvenile justice, drug & alcohol policy, community development & support, social justice, homelessness, domestic & family violence and vocational education & training. A councillor on Marrickville Council and a foster carer for young homeless women, in 2000 she was part of a team of four women who coedited a book called Party Girls - Labor Women Now. In the Labor Party, she has held a variety of positions in local branches; been a delegate to state and national conferences, and co-convened women's networks and co-ordinated policy development. She was elected Vice President of the Evatt Foundation in November 2006. Visit Penny's website.
