Is the Evatt Foundation part of the trade union movement? No. The Evatt Foundation is not affiliated with any trade union. Many of our members are also members of trade unions and many trade unions are members of the Evatt Foundation, obviously because trade unions are part of the labour movement, but there is no formal affiliation. We have members who are not members of trade unions, there are trade unions who are not members of the Evatt Foundation, and we have members who do not tell us whether they are members of a trade union. The Evatt Foundation holds that it is in the interest of all workers to be members of their trade union, but does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of trade union membership. Uniquely, the Evatt Foundation stands for the highest ideals of the labour movement generally and is an independent body, consistent with our Statement of Purpose.
