Pearl grew up up on Thursday Island, and is now the NSW and ACT Development and Outreach Officer for the Uniting Aboriginal and Christian Congress Introduction to the speakersLeanne Townsend, Aniwan Woman and CEO of NSW Reconciliation. Leanne has recently moved to Sydney from Canberra where she worked as Indigenous Adviser to the Governor-General and with FACSIA with responsibility for the NAIDOC Committee. Please note that the conversation will be on this Monday (not Tuesday) 8 March 2010 in the Sydney Trades Hall Auditorium, 4 Goulburn Street Sydney (enter via Sussex St).

The Big Pictures: privatisation & prisonsAs previously advised, we are pleased to announce the screening of Business Behind Bars, followed by a panel discussion led by Professor David Brown from the University of NSW. The film will be screened in the Sydney Mechanics Institute, 280 Pitt Street. The date is Thursday 25 March. The time is 6 p.m. Entry is by donation.
Other infoThe Tolpuddle Martyrs: Injustice within the lawThe Evatt Foundation has received a new stock of the new edition of Herbert Vere Evatt's history of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Elegantly published by Sydney University Press with a new introduction by Geoffrey Robertson QC, the book marks the 175 years since the transportation of the Martyrs to Australia. Everyone in the labour movement will want this fine work.
