Barney is an Organiser with the Finance Sector Union of Australia, NSW/ACT Branch, organising workers' day to day to articulate a collective voice in pursuit of a fairer workplace.
Born and raised in Newcastle, Barney moved to Sydney in order to pursue an honours degree in Australian history and political economy from the University of Sydney. His honours thesis investigated the political economic contest associated with the creation of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
He is particularly interested in Australian economic history as well as the creation of alternative historical sites as a way to re-imagine the future.
