About Lesley Hughes
Professor Lesley Hughes is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Integrity and Development) and Distinguished Professor of Biology at Macquarie University, and a member of the Climate Changer Council of Australia.
Professor Hughes is an expert on the effects of climate change on species and ecosystems, is a member of Climate Scientists Australia and the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists, and was a lead author for the UN’s IPCC Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports. She also won the 2014 Australian Government Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Australian Science Research.
‘We are thrilled to have Professor Hughes as our speaker this year,’ says Trish Doyle, the recently elected MP for the Blue Mountains and the dinner’s MC. ‘Climate change and the environment more generally are issues that this community cares about deeply, and Professor Hughes’ knowledge, and understanding of how best to communicate that knowledge to the public, are sure to make this night interesting and instructive.’
