The past, present and future of human rights in Australia

The Evatt Foundation proudly presents a suite of events to celebrate and critically reflect on the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Monday 10 December 2018 is the 70th anniversary of the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations, the first time the organised community of nations has made a declaration of human rights. Australia was a leader in the development and adoption of the Universal Declaration. Dr Herbert Vere Evatt, presided over the occasion as the President of the General Assembly — the highest position in international affairs ever attained by an Australian. On the anniversary, the Evatt Foundation presents a play that goes behind the scenes 70 years ago, a landmark lecture on the present moment, and a forum about the next 70 years.
